Tư vấn truyền thông: Sự kiện Ngày lãng phí và thất thoát lương thực và Người phát ngôn tại COP28

For background and information about GFN’s activities at COP28, visit: https://gfn.gbtesting.us/gfn-at-cop28/

WHAT: The Global FoodBanking Network and partners will be hosting at a series of events to discuss the food system transformation, highlighting the the connection between food loss and waste and climate action at COP28. They are hosting events for the “Food Loss and Waste Day” at the Food Systems Pavilion on December 8, 2023.

Events will discuss a range of topics, including the role of reducing food waste to cut methane emissions, policies needed to expand food loss and waste reduction, and how global supply chains can be leveraged to address food systems challenges. These events will feature specific examples of activities and solutions, including food banking, which are having a demonstrated impact to reduce emissions and improve food access. GFN will have spokespeople in Dubai who are available for interviews throughout the COP.

WHY: Food loss and waste accounts for 8-10 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, including more damaging methane emissions, with up to a third of all food produced lost or wasted each year. At the same time, up to 783 million people faced hunger worldwide in 2022. Addressing food loss and waste is therefore a vital solution to the joint climate and humanitarian crises.

Food systems will be one of the key pillars of this year’s COP, with countries set to be invited to sign onto the Emirates Declaration on Resilient Food Systems, Sustainable Agriculture and Climate Action. Food loss and waste will also receive unprecedented attention as one of the key avenues to improve the sustainability and resilience of global food systems.

TRONG 2022, members of The Global FoodBanking Network (GFN), which are present in nearly 50 countries worldwide, recovered enough food from loss or wastage to feed some 32 million people, and prevented 1.5 billion kilograms of CO2e from food waste, the equivalent of taking 336,000 passenger vehicles off the road for a year.
